Your Domain identifies to your assigned IP. Your hosting server resolves ("points" to your Domain and your assigned IP) using a Zone File.
Your Domain's zone file is located at your Domain Registrar. This zone file is a set of instructions for your hosting server to resolve to your Internet Domain Name and to the appropriate Internet IP address.
Changing the Domain DNS
When you register your Domain, your domain registrar uses its default DNS settings to set your Domain's DNS zone file settings. To change your DNS zone file, you must change your Domain's registrar default DNS settings.
For your Domain to resolve to your hosting servers, the following general process is required:
Obtain your hosting servers nameserver information:
- Your hosting servers nameserver information should have be included in the hosting server account email you received when you ordered your web hosting service
The following is ZDiQ nameservers information and is provided as an example.
Your nameserver information may be different, but should appear in a similar format:
ns1.zdiq.com => 198.20.236.126
ns2.zdiq.com => 198.20.236.79
All changes to your Domain DNS must be initiated at your Domain's registrar.
Domain Registrar DNS Changes
- Your Domain registration information (username and password) should have be included in the registar's email you received when you registered your Domain

To change your DNS nameserver information, visit your Domain's registrar website
- Login at your Domain registrar's website
If you have forgotten the username and password, you may be able to recover this information by using a "recovery password" function, usually present with the registrar's login prompt.
- After login, choose the domain name that requires a hosting server DNS change
After login, look for the link to manage your domain (link can appear similar to "Domain Manager" or "Domain Management" or "Domains").
- Look for the DNS link and click
- Replace the current nameservers information
Generally, the only DNS nameserver fields requiring changes are the nameserver domains. As an example, new hosting nameserver domain information follows:
ns1.zdiq.com
ns2.zdiq.com
Occasionally, you may also be required to complete nameserver IP fields (with the hosting nameserve IP addresses) as follows:
ns1.zdiq.com => 198.20.236.126
ns2.zdiq.com => 198.20.236.79
- Once the DNS fields have been updated, click the "Save" link
- Some systems check the new DNS settings and will display a prompt signaling successful DNS update confirmation
Your new DNS information edits will now start to be automatically propagated through the Internet. This Internet propagation process may take up to 48 hours.
- You may check your current nameservers at Whois.net
