Domain Management
Domain Names and Domain Management
Domain Names are used to identify one or more IP addresses and as such, a Domain as an Internet Uniform Resource Locator (URL) identifies and forms a domain's web address for particular websites and their web pages.
Every domain has a Top Level Domain (TLD) suffix with which it is associated.
Some typical TDLs examples follows, such as:
- [dot]com for commercial businesses
- [dot]net for network organizations
- [dot]org for organizations (generally nonprofit)
- [dot]biz an alternative to [dot]com for business
- [dot]us for domestic US enterprises
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is based in California and is the controlling regulatory body that oversees Internet Protocol (IP) address and domain name assignment.
ICANN is responsible for rule-making and oversight and requires accredited registrars to recordkeep the domain registrant's contact information, domain creation and expiration dates and other information that forms the WHOIS (pronounced as the phrase "who is") registered domain database record.
Domains form the cornerstone of your online presence and combined with your ZDiQ Client Management Account, you control the following:
- Register a New Domain Name
- Renew your Domain
- Access your Domain's Status
- Monitor and Edit your Domain's Registrant and Administrative (admin) Contact Information
- Change your Domain Name System (DNS) settings
Having registered a domain name, you (the registrant) are responsible for timely renewal of the domain in order to maintain its "Active" status.
Using you Client Management Account, you will be able to manage the following for each of your Domains:
Manage Profile
This allows you to change your Domain login and password information, create sub-users and group multiple domains into different profiles.
Admin Contact
The administrator (admin) is the only person designated to make changes to the domain. Your Domain's registrar uses the admin email address which should be kept current and correct.
Billing Contact
This is the contact responsible for billing issues regarding your domain’s registration. All renewal information will be sent to this address. The Billing Contact is not shown in the WHOIS database.
Technical Contact
Although having no authority to make any domain management changes, this designate is generally responsible for web hosting, email account management and other DNS issues.
Manage Name Servers
This allows for modification of name server (DNS) information as well as create domain based name server hosts.
Domain Extras
Domain Extras are the additional domain settings that are unique to your domain name such as requests for the domain Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP) code or transfer key (an authorization code) from your current registrar, the forwarding email address for .NAME domains, and Nexus data for .US domains.
Provider Contact
This is the Domain Provider information that is responsible for the domain name registration, providing you technical and customer support for your domain name registration.
