General Email Client Set-Up Configuration
The following Helps may not be successful with every Email Client program and are provided for generally configuring your Email Client.
(replace "yourdomain.com" with your actual domain name)
- Your/Display name: anything you want
- Email address: enter your full email address (name@yourdomain.com)
- Type of connection: POP3 or IMAP
(Click here for more information on POP, IMAP and using Webmail.) - Incoming Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com
- Outgoing Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com (Outgoing Mail Server does require authentication)
Using Our Servers:
Incoming Mail Server Port: 110 for POP3, 143 for IMAP
Outgoing Mail Server Port: 25 (If Port 25 does not work, try Port 26 as some Internet Service Providers - ISPs block Port 25)
No SSL checkbox options should be checked (unless your domain employs a SSL Certificate)
Note:
For Comcast / Xfinity Internet customers, Port 587 is available for use as Ports 25 and Port 26 are blocked on their network.
Additional Notes:
Username/Account Name: Must be your full email address (name@yourdomain.com). Sometimes this setting won't work until you replace the @ with a plus sign ("+") in the Username.
Password: Must be your email Password. Do Not Use a Secure Password Authentication (SPA).
Incoming Mail Server
Your Incoming Server receives your email.
An Incoming Mail Server is the email server address at which your incoming email is stored, waiting for downloading or viewing with your Email Client.
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Your Outgoing Server sends your email.
An Outgoing Mail Server is the email server address which is waiting and listening for your outgoing email to be sent to it by your Email Client.
Username/Account and Password
Your Username/Account Name and Password provides the Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server with authentication credentials that allows you to access your email account and messages.
When using your email accounts, your entire email address including the prefix, the @ and then the domain name and suffix is most generally, your Username.
Your Password is the same Password that is used to access your email account when using Webmail.
Extra Settings
These Extra Settings are based on how you use your email account and your personal preferences.
Configuring Your Email Client
Entering Account Information
If you are using your Email Client for the first time, you will likely be prompted to create a new account.
If you are modifying your Email Client, the steps will be very similar.
Almost all Email Clients require the same information to function.
Whether you are using your Email Client for the first time or editing your Email Client, the process starts by adding a new email account to your Email Client. When configuring your Email Client, the prompts will be the same. The configuration prompts require Incoming Server, Outgoing Server, Username and Password information.
